Recap: Florida vs. Vanderbilt

Gainesville, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jerron Seymour ran for three touchdowns, helping the Vanderbilt Commodores upend the Florida Gators, 34-17, in Southeastern Conference play at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Seymour rushed for 62 yards for the Commodores (5-4, 2-4 SEC) who beat Florida for the first time since 1988. Patton Robinette completed 6-of-12 passes for 57 yards, five of which went to Jordan Matthews for 45 yards, and the quarterback also rushed for a touchdown.

Tyler Murphy (30-of-46) threw for 305 yards and a score, but was also intercepted three times for the Gators (4-5, 3-4 SEC), who lost their fourth consecutive game in what has been a disappointing season. Murphy threw to 11 different receivers during the contest. Kelvin Taylor rushed for 48 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.

A lengthy opening drive by Vanderbilt set up a 31-yard field goal by Carey Spear to begin the game's scoring. Some five and a half minutes later, Florida's Austin Hardin attempted to even the score, but failed on his field goal try from 44 yards out.

In the final minute of the first quarter, Andre Hal intercepted Murphy and the Commodores' ensuing possession led to a 10-yard touchdown rush by Seymour and a 10-0 advantage.

Murphy was intercepted again early in the second quarter, this time by Kenny Ladler, setting up a Vanderbilt four-play drive that culminated with a Robinette five-yard rushing touchdown, increasing the lead to 17-0.

The Gators' next possession put them within a yard of the goal line, but their shaky play inside the red zone forced them to settle for a field goal, a 23-yarder from Brad Phillips.

Turnovers continued to haunt the Gators and Murphy, who was intercepted a third time early in the second half. Vanderbilt kept rolling on its ensuing drive, finished off by a two-yard touchdown run by Seymour, increasing the lead to 24-3.

Florida attempted to climb back in the game five minutes later after a four- yard rushing score by Taylor, cutting the lead to 24-10.

Seymour continued his big game, registering his third score of the afternoon on the first play of the fourth quarter, a one-yard effort.

The Gators mounted a six-play, 73-yard drive in the final quarter, capped by an 11-yard TD pass from Murphy to Ahmad Fulwood, but that still left the hosts with a two-touchdown deficit midway through the frame.

A second Spear field goal in the final minute from 31 yards away put the icing on the cake for Vanderbilt as it claimed the surprising victory on the road.

Vandy picked up the win despite generating a mere 183 yards of total offense, compared to 344 for the Gators.
