Recap: Miss State vs. Bowling Green

Starkville, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Dak Prescott rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns as he led the Bulldogs of Mississippi State past the Bowling Green Falcons, 21-20, in a non-conference clash at Davis Wade Stadium.

Prescott did his damage on just 15 carries while also completing 7-of-11 passes for 75 yards and an interception for the Bulldogs (3-3) who have won two of their last three. LaDarius Perkins added 83 yards rushing and a score on 16 carries while Tyler Russell threw for 102 yards on 12-of-14 passing.

Matt Johnson completed 20-of-34 passes for 224 yards while adding 29 yards rushing and a touchdown on six carries for Bowling Green (5-2) which saw a three-game winning streak come to an end. Travis Greene led the Falcons in rushing with 99 yards on 15 carries. Ryan Burbrink managed 66 yards receiving on four receptions.

On the opening drive of the game, Mississippi State strung together a nine- play, 75-yard drive which lasted just over five minutes and was capped off by a one-yard touchdown run from Perkins. Bowling Green managed a 35-yard field goal from Tyler Tate midway through the first quarter but on the first play of the following drive for the Bulldogs, Prescott ran for a 75-yard touchdown to give Mississippi State a 14-3 lead.

With 4:15 left in the second quarter, Andre Givens took in a seven-yard score on the ground for Bowling Green's first touchdown of the game. The Bulldogs responded with a 10-play, 75-yard drive which resulted in a 10-yard touchdown run from Prescott with 1:04 left in the half. With such little time, Bowling Green managed to drive down the field and set up a 45-yard field goal from Tate as time expired in the first half. The Bulldogs led 21-13 at the break.

The only scoring in the second half came on a two-yard touchdown run from Johnson for the Falcons. Down by just two, Bowling Green decided to kick the extra point which made the score 21-20 in favor of the Bulldogs. The Falcons would later regret that decision as the score would remain 21-20 until the final whistle.

The Bulldogs rushed for 245 yards, averaging six yards per carry, which allowed them to control the tempo throughout the game.
