Recap: Arizona vs. Washington St

Tucson, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Connor Halliday threw a pair of touchdown passes to lead the Washington State Cougars to a 24-17 Pac-12 victory over the Arizona Wildcats at Arizona Stadium.

Halliday led the Cougars (5-5, 3-4 Pac-12) with 319 passing yards on 39-of-53 efficiency and was picked off once. Marcus Mason had 63 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Dom Williams led all receivers with 75 yards and seven catches.

Arizona (6-4, 3-4) was paced by B.J. Denker, who connected on 26-of-38 pass attempts for 200 yards and one touchdown. Ka'Deem Carey rushed for a game- high 132 yards and a score on 26 attempts. Carey also tied Nate Phillips for the team-lead the team with 45 receiving yards and a touchdown on six receptions.

The Cougars struck first as Mason scored on a 15-yard touchdown rush put the visitors ahead, 7-0, with 7:10 left in the first quarter. They added to their lead as Andrew Furney made a 24-yard field goal with just over two minutes left in the opening stanza.

Arizona finally produced some points in the final minute of the first quarter and narrowed its deficit to 10-7 as Carey broke away for a 30-yard touchdown run.

The Wildcats went in front as Denker completed a seven-yard touchdown pass to Carey that gave the visitors a 14-10 advantage with 7:37 remaining in the first half. Neither defense allowed another score in the second quarter.

Washington State regained control as Halliday connected with River Cracraft on a 23-yard touchdown pass to take a 17-14 lead at the 11:17 mark of the third period.

Jake Smith connected on a 25-yard field goal attempt with 6:36 left in the third quarter to tie the score at 17.

Both offenses struggled the majority of the fourth frame. The Cougars finally ended a span of over 19 minutes without any scoring with a late go-ahead touchdown. Halliday connected with Isiah Myers on a 25-yard touchdown pass to put Washington state up 24-17 with only 2:15 left to play.

Arizona managed to drive to WSU's 13-yard line, but Denker threw an incomplete pass on fourth down with 12 seconds left to end its threat.

This win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Cougars, who finished with a 420-395 edge in total yards of offense.
