Recap: USC vs. Boston College

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Cody Kessler threw for 237 yards and two touchdowns to lead the USC Trojans over the Boston College Eagles, 35-7, at the Coliseum.

Kessler was highly efficient as he connected on 15-of-17 pass attempts as he led the Trojans (2-1), who were coming off of a 10-7 home loss to Pac-12 rival Washington State. He completed passes to eight different receivers. Marqise Lee entered the contest averaging only 8.7 yards per reception, but improved on that mark as he shined with two catches for 90 yards and a touchdown.

With Silas Redd still out of action due to injury, Tre Madden and Justin Davis took advantage of their opportunities. Madden rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries while Davis managed 96 yards and score on 10 carries.

Boston College (2-1) struggled in all aspects of the game and suffered their first loss of the season after a promising 2-0 start. Chase Rettig completed just 11-of-24 passes for 83 yards. On the ground, reigning ACC Offensive Player of the Week Andre Williams managed just 38 yards on 17 carries.

Nearing the end of the first quarter, Kessler found Madden for a five-yard touchdown pass to cap off a 14-play, 86-yard drive which lasted just under eight minutes.

USC struck again midway through the second quarter. On the opening play of the Trojans' drive, Kessler found Lee for an 80-yard touchdown pass. The Trojans led 14-0 at halftime.

The hosts found success on the ground after halftime to extend their lead. Madden dashed 30 yards for a touchdown at the 4:15 mark of the third quarter before Davis added a 17-yard run touchdown early in the fourth quarter to give the Trojans a 28-0 lead.

On the following drive, the Eagles finally ended the run as Rouse scored on a 29-yard touchdown run to get Boston College on the board.

The Trojans then put together an 11-play, 75-yard drive which lasted over six minutes and resulted in a two-yard touchdown run by Max Wittek to give USC the 35-7 win.

USC recorded 521 yards of total offense while Boston College managed just 184 yards. Despite the game being a blowout, both teams took care of the football with neither team having a turnover.

Madden became the first USC player in 32 years to open a season with three consecutive 100-yard rushing games.
