Recap: FIU vs. Marshall

Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Rakeen Cato threw for 241 yards and four touchdowns as the Marshall Thundering Herd trampled the FIU Panthers 48-10 in a Conference USA clash at FIU Stadium.

Cato completed 15-of-31 passes for the Thundering Herd (8-3, 6-1 C-USA) and connected with Gator Hoskins for three of his four touchdown passes. Hoskins tallied 137 yards on the day. Tommy Shuler caught a touchdown and picked up 76 yards receiving. Blake Frohnapfel and Steward Butler also added rushing touchdowns on 78 and 76 yard games, respectively.

E.J. Hilliard completed 15-of-29 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers (1-10, 1-6 C-USA). Hilliard was sacked seven times and intercepted once.

Austin Taylor opened the scoring for FIU on a 43-yard field goal just under four minutes into the contest.

Just under two minutes into the second quarter, Marshall answered with a 25- yard touchdown grab by Hoskins from Cato.

With six minutes left in the quarter, the Thundering Herd added to their lead after a 72-yard touchdown run by Butler. However the extra point attempt failed, leaving the score at 13-3.

Marshall wasn't done in the period as it got another touchdown with 11 seconds left in the first half on a 21-yard pass from Cato to Shuler.

Hoskins continued his strong performance with two more touchdowns in the third quarter. The first came four minutes in on a 15-yard pass from Cato, and the second, with two minutes remaining in the quarter, on a 32-yard pass from Cato.

Just over four minutes into the final quarter, Ya'Keem Griner pulled in a touchdown for the Panthers on 10-yard pass from Hilliard, making the score 34-10.

With 8:40 left in the game, Frohnapfel added to the Herd's crushing lead with a 45-yard touchdown run, making it 41-10.

Justin Hunt did even more damage with 2:30 left, catching a 40-yard pass from Frohnapfel to complete the 48-10 romp.

Marshall finished the game with a staggering 558 total yards of offense, more than double the production of its opponent in what was clearly a one-sided contest from start to finish.
