San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Taylor McHargue threw for 183 yards and a touchdown on 9-of-21 passing as the Rice Owls defeated the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, 27-21, in a Conference USA tilt at the Alamodome.

McHargue added 41 yards and another score on 10 carries for the Owls (4-2, 3-0 C-USA) while Charles Ross added 59 yards on 11 carries. Jordan Taylor pulled down four receptions for 61 yards and Dennis Parks caught three passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Eric Soza finished with 170 yards passing, completing 17-of-31 for the Roadrunners (2-5, 1-2). Soza added 85 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 17 carries, while David Glasco II carried the ball 14 times for 78 yards and a score.

Rice opened the scoring with a couple of field goals by Chris Boswell, a 49- yard effort midway through the first and a 28-yard conversion early in the second, to give the Owls a 6-0 lead with just under 12 minutes to play in the half.

UTSA got on the board with a five-play, 85-yard drive that was finished off by a Glasco one-yard run for the score that put the Roadrunners up 7-6 with 9:23 remaining in the second quarter.

The Owls then finished the half with back-to-back touchdown drives, the first coming on a four-yard run by Darik Dillard with 5:44 left in the half. After the Roadrunners missed a 46-yard field goal, the Owls closed out the second quarter with an eight-play, 71-yard drive that was capped off by a 37-yard touchdown strike from McHargue to Parks that extended the Rice lead to 20-7.

The Owls tacked on another score in the third quarter, moving the ball 66 yards in nine plays on their first possession, as McHargue crossed the goal line from six yards out, giving Rice a 27-7 advantage.

Soza registered a pair of one-yard TD runs in the fourth quarter, the second coming after a 13-play, 76-yard drive that saw the Roadrunners down just 27-21 with 1:24 to play in regulation. The Roadrunners were unable to recover the ensuing on-sides kick however, and the Owls subsequently ran out the clock for the victory, their seventh-straight conference win and fourth C-USA road win in a row.

UTSA outgained Rice on offense, finishing with 434 total yards to 340 for the Owls. However, the Roadrunners converted just 4-of-16 on third down on the day.
