Recap: Miami-Florida vs. Fla Atlantic

Miami Gardens, FL (Sports Network) - Duke Johnson rattled off a career-high 186 yards on the ground as the Miami-Florida Hurricanes ran over the Florida Atlantic Owls, 34-6, in a non-conference matchup at Sun Life Stadium.

Johnson picked up his career-best on just 19 carries and also scored a touchdown for Miami (1-0). Johnson added 38 yards receiving as well. Stephen Morris completed 15-of-27 pass attempts for 160 yards and a touchdown to match one interception. Seven different receivers caught passes in the game for the Hurricanes.

Jaquez Johnson connected on just 11-of-20 pass attempts for 83 yards for FAU (0-1). Greg Hankerson also spent some time under center for the Owls and collected 34 yards on 5-of-11 passing. Jonathan Wallace had a team-high of just 34 yards rushing for the Owls, who had five different players carry the ball at least five times.

Though the Hurricanes got off to a slow start, they finished strong to secure the victory.

The Hurricanes opened up the scoring more than halfway through the first quarter with a 35-yard field goal from Matt Goudis.

Early in the second quarter Johnson, in one of his many highlights from the night, broke into the open field and dashed for a 53-yard touchdown. With the score, the Hurricanes extended their lead to 10-0.

An 11-play, 67-yard drive near the midway point of the period ended with a 25- yard field goal from Mitch Anderson which got FAU on the scoreboard for the first time.

It didn't take long for Miami to answer, though it again settled for a Goudis field goal, this time from 45 yards out.

The Hurricanes would further extend their lead before halftime when Morris connected with Clive Walford for a 16-yard touchdown at the two minute mark.

The Owls got on the board first in the second half with a 20-yard field goal from Anderson.

However, Miami began to pull away later in the quarter when Herb Waters, who had 112 all-purpose yards, broke away for a 63-yard touchdown run on his only carry of the contest.

Dallas Crawford would account for the final points of the game as he scored on a four-yard touchdown run following a FAU fumble.
