Recap: Syracuse vs. Tulane

Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) - Terrel Hunt threw for 175 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Syracuse Orange over the Tulane Green Wave, 52-17, in a non-conference matchup at the Carrier Dome.

Hunt completed 16-of-21 passes and added a score on the ground, while Prince- Tyson Gulley ran for 57 yards and touchdown on 11 carries. Hunt's key target was Chris Clark, who caught four passes for 60 yards and touchdown. Jerome Smith contributed two scores, one rushing and one receiving.

Syracuse (2-2) earned its 700th all-time win. The Orange are one of just 16 FBS programs to reach that mark.

Tulane (2-2) was led by Nick Montana, who threw for 213 yards, one touchdown and one interception on 22-of-38 passing. Rob Kelley ran for 56 yards and touchdown on seven carries, while Justyn Shackleford tallied seven receptions for 106 yards and a score.

The game kicked off with a very busy first quarter. For Syracuse, Hunt threw three touchdown passes, hitting Smith (15 yards), Clark (19 yards) and Clay Cleveland (five yards). For Tulane, Cairo Santos kicked a 21-yard field goal and Rob Kelley ran in a 45-yard touchdown. The Orange led 21-10 after the opening frame.

Syracuse kept things going in the second quarter. Hunt ran for a 16-yard touchdown, and just a few minutes later Gulley found his way into the end zone on a one-yard run.

Tulane finally answered back with 1:44 left in the half as Montana hit Shackleford for a 16-yard touchdown, but Syracuse responded by charging down the field on a 10-play, 85-yard drive, capped off by a one-yard touchdown run by Smith with four seconds left. The Orange led 42-17 at the break.

Tulane went scoreless in the second half, while Syracuse added 10 more points on a four-yard touchdown pass from Hunt to Cleveland and a 22-yard field goal from Ryan Norton.

Syracuse converted 7-of-14 third downs and scored on all eight of its red zone possessions.
