Recap: Troy vs. UAB

Troy, AL (Sports Network) - Corey Robinson completed 30-of-32 pass attempts for 319 yards and a touchdown as the Troy Trojans came from behind to defeat the UAB Blazers, 34-31 in overtime, in a season-opening non-conference bout at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Robinson set an NCAA record for completion percentage with at least 30 attempts in a game (.938) on his near-perfect night for Troy (1-0) while also tying a school record with 20 consecutive completions. Jordan Chunn, Deon Anthony and Brandon Burks all had rushing scores in the triumph, and Eric Thomas caught five balls for 69 yards and a touchdown.

For UAB (0-1), Jamarcus Nelson tallied a school-record 367 all-purpose yards, hauling in 10 receptions for 199 yards and two touchdowns while accounting for 168 kick return yards and another score. Austin Brown threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-29 passing, while Jamari Staples also had a big day receiving with six catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. Darrin Reaves was solid on the ground, gaining 110 yards on 23 carries.

Troy struck first very early in the first quarter, as Burks ran in a 10-yard touchdown to give it a 7-0 lead less than three minutes in.

UAB responded quickly however with a pair of Brown touchdown strikes, one to Nelson for 21 yards and the other to Staples for 42 yards, giving it a 14-7 advantage midway through the first.

After an otherwise scoreless second quarter, Ty Long converted a 50-yard field goal as time expired to extend the Blazers' lead heading into intermission.

The Trojans inched closer midway through the third quarter on a 23-yard touchdown toss from Robinson to Thomas, but the Blazers wasted no time in retaliating, as Nelson ran back the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a score.

Troy advanced deep into UAB territory later in the third quarter but had to settle for an 18-yard field goal by Will Scott.

UAB converted another long touchdown a minute later, with Nelson hauling in a 62-yard scoring toss from Brown to give the Blazers their largest lead of the game, 31-17.

Troy would not go quietly, however. Chunn's 11-yard touchdown run with 11:22 left in the fourth quarter brought the Trojans back within one score, 31-24.

Later in the quarter, Robinson completed a 31-yard pass to Chandler Worthy down to the goal line, and Anthony cashed in with a one-yard touchdown rush to tie the game up, 31-31. UAB failed to score on its final possession, and the game went to overtime.

After the Blazers failed to score with their first possession in the extra period, Troy made them pay, as Scott drilled a game-winning 30-yard field goal to complete the comeback victory.

UAB was hindered by a poor night converting on third down (2-of-14).
