Recap: Texas vs. Oklahoma State

Austin, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Clint Chelf threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more scores as No. 12 Oklahoma State ran off a 38-13 win over 23rd-ranked Texas in a crucial Big 12 matchup.

Oklahoma State (9-1, 6-1 Big 12) and Texas (7-3, 6-1) both have just one loss in the conference, while Baylor is still undefeated as the Bears crushed Texas Tech later on Saturday.

Oklahoma State will host Baylor next Saturday in a game that could determine the fate of the conference.

Chelf went 16-for-22 passing for 197 yards and one interception, while adding 95 yards on 10 carries for the Cowboys, who also got an interception return for a touchdown from Justin Gilbert.

"I'm very proud of our team, their willingness to prepare and compete and come down here in front of 100,000 people and play the way they played and take the crowd out of the game and play the game," said Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy. "We knew that they had a good football team up front and their offensive and defensive line was as big and physical and fast as we've played in years past. It's always a challenge."

Case McCoy had a tough day under center as he was picked off three times while going 26-for-39 for 221 yards for the Longhorns, who saw Malcolm Brown score their only touchdown of the game as part of a 25-carry, 73-yard effort.

"Very disappointing night. But we have to get ready to play Texas Tech, and we've got to beat Texas Tech and Baylor and still win the Big 12 Championship," said Texas head coach Mack Brown. "Thank goodness those guys have put us in a position to do that over the last six weeks."

Oklahoma State found the end zone on its second drive of the game as a 7-play, 72-yard series was finished off by Chelf when he kept the ball and took it up the middle for an 18-yard score with 9:09 left in the first quarter.

Texas countered with a 16-play, 60-yard drive that ate up almost 5 1/2 minutes, but it stalled and Anthony Fera booted a 39-yard field goal to make it a 7-3 game.

The score stayed that way until halfway through the second quarter as Oklahoma State took advantage of excellent field position after holding Texas at its own 5-yard line and getting the ball back at the Texas 42. Chelf capped off the short march as he faked the handoff and ran the ball in around the left end from four yards out for a 14-3 lead.

Texas, though, answered with a scoring drive of its own that saw Brown cap the 10-play, 75-yard march with a 7-yard run for a 14-10 game with 3:39 left in the first half.

The Cowboys came right back with another scoring drive as the first play saw Charlie Moore catch a pass for 24 yards to get the ball across midfield. Five plays later from the Texas 12, Chelf tossed a pass into the right corner that tipped off the hands of a defender and into the hands of Tracy Moore for a 21-10 lead with 1:15 left in the first half.

Oklahoma State got on the board again less than a minute later to take a 28-10 lead into the break, as Gilbert stepped in front of a McCoy pass and took it untouched down the left sideline for a 43-yard score.

The Longhorns started the half with the ball and got a 27-yard field goal from Fera, but the Cowboys answered with a field goal of their own on Ben Grogan's 39-yard kick with 7:16 to play in the third.

A Caleb Lavey interception of McCoy later in the third gave the Cowboys the ball at the Texas 21, and the next play saw Chelf hit Moore in the end zone for a 38-13 lead.

McCoy was picked off on the next Texas possession, and later threw an incompletion on 4th-and-3 as the Longhorns were unable to chip away at their deficit.
