Midway through the third quarter the Horned Frogs mimicked the Mustangs by getting the ball inside the five-yard line and then fumbling. After recovering their own fumble at the 25-yard line, the Horned Frogs were forced to settle on a 35-yard field goal from Jaden Oberkrom.

A Sam Carter interception setup the home team with a drive inside the opponent's 40-yard line. This time TCU would score a touchdown on a 20-yard pass from Boykin to Slanina. This gave the Horned Frogs a seven point lead with a little over four minutes left in the third quarter.

TCU continued the offensive attack on their next drive on a 56-yard screen pass touchdown from Boykin to Ja'Juan Story.

A 50-yard punt return from Cameron Echols-Luper started the Horned Frogs' next drive in the red-zone as well. This led to a six-yard rushing score for B.J. Catalon, putting TCU up 31-10.

TCU continued to score as the when it added another three points on a 26-yard field goal from Oberkrom.

The Mustangs were finally able to end the second half shutout by scoring on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Gilbert to Darius Joseph.

A failed onside kick by SMU led to a 45-yard touchdown return by Ladarius Brown for TCU.

The Horned Frogs widened the gap even more with just over a minute left when Gilbert threw an interception to Sam Carter that was returned 66 yards for a score.

Both teams had issues holding on to the ball with eight combined fumbles but only three total lost between the two. The Horned Frogs were just 2-of-12 on third down.
