Recap: Iowa vs. Northwestern

Iowa City, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jake Rudock threw the deciding touchdown pass to tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz in overtime, as the Iowa Hawkeyes escaped with a 17-10 win over the Northwestern Wildcats in a Big Ten Conference tilt at Kinnick Stadium.

Rudock finished with 169 yards on 19-of-27 passing and was also intercepted once. Running backs Mark Weisman and Damon Bullock combined for 108 yards and a touchdown on the ground to help the Hawkeyes (5-3, 2-2 Big Ten) avoid a third straight loss.

Stephen Buckley had 17 carries for 99 yards for the Wildcats (4-4, 0-4), who were dealt their fourth straight loss. Kain Colter completed 11-of-14 passes for 104 yards and a TD, but the mobile quarterback was also sacked five times and found very little room to run.

Iowa opened the game with a 14-play, 74-yard drive that lasted five and a half minutes. Bullock punctuated the drive with a three-yard touchdown run to stake the home team an early 7-0 lead.

The Hawkeyes pushed the margin to 10-0 on Mike Meyer's 38-yard field goal with just under 10 minutes remaining in the second quarter.

The score would remain that way until the 4:44 mark of the third quarter, when Colter finally got the Wildcats on the scoreboard with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Dan Vitale.

NU tied the score at 10-10 on Jeff Budzien's 29-yard field goal with 9:09 to play in the fourth quarter, and the game eventually went to overtime to settle the outcome.

Iowa got the ball first in the extra session and Rudock threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Fiedorowicz. Louis Trinca-Pasat sealed the win for the Hawkeyes with a sack of Colter on 4th-and-8 from the 23-yard line.

Both teams tallied 19 first downs, but Iowa simply managed to come through with the big plays in overtime. NU's Mike Trumpy lost two fumbles on the day.
