Recap: Illinois vs. Michigan State

Champaign, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Connor Cook threw for three touchdowns in a nearly flawless performance to lead the Michigan State Spartans to a 42-3 rout of the Illinois Fighting Illini in Big Ten play at Memorial Stadium.

Cook had just a single incompletions on 16 pass attempts and tallied 208 yards for Michigan State (7-1, 4-0 Big Ten). Jeremy Langford had 104 yards and two scores on 22 carries and Keith Mumphery picked up 77 yards and a touchdown on just three catches.

Nathan Scheelhaase finished with just 103 yards on 13-of-21 passing and was intercepted once for Illinois (3-4, 0-3). Spencer Harris brought in six passes for 46 yards.

Taylor Zalewski gave Illinois the first lead of the game when he made good on a 31-yard field goal early in the first quarter.

The Spartans would take a 7-3 advantage early in the second period on a one- yard touchdown run from Langford.

With nine seconds left before intermission Cook tossed a 29-yard touchdown pass to Bennie Fowler.

In the third quarter it was Josiah Price's turn to score as he hauled in a 13- yard touchdown pass from Cook.

Langford scored his second touchdown of the contest later in the third period on a seven-yard touchdown run.

Cook struck again, this time on a 47-yard connection to Mumphery, early in the fourth quarter as the Spartans continued to pull away.

The points just kept coming for Michigan State as Delton Williams ripped off a 42-yard touchdown run midway through the final period.
