Recap: Florida State vs. Nevada

Tallahassee, FL (Sports Network) - Jameis Winston threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score -- one of six by his team on Saturday -- before being rested, as 10th-ranked Florida State shook off a slow start and routed Nevada, 62-7, at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Winston ended at 15-of-18 efficiency with one interception for the Seminoles (2-0), who rolled to victory thanks to 59 consecutive points following an early deficit -- including 31 in the third quarter alone.

Karlos Williams recorded a 65-yard TD run as part of a 110-yard, eight carry performance, while Devonta Freeman added 109 yards on nine rushes including a score.

"I'm not trying to say that I was rubbing a crystal ball, but that guy is a talented cat. The way he hits it, how hard he hits it with speed and size. I was very proud," said FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher. "I thought (Devonta) Freeman and all those guys ran very well today, but Karlos will provide us with a very big piece to the puzzle in my opinion as the year goes on."

Kenny Shaw compiled 94 yards on six receptions, and Rashad Green posted three catches for 39 yards, with both players hauling in Winston scoring passes.

Devin Combs and Tyler Stewart combined to complete 13-of-24 passes for only 86 yards and a touchdown for the Wolf Pack (1-2), who were coming off a win against UC-Davis but have allowed 120 points in their two defeats this season.

Brandon Wimberly totaled 23 yards and a score on five catches, while Chris Solomon rumbled for 108 yards on 26 totes in defeat.

Freeman's six-yard run less than a minute into the second half pushed the Seminoles' lead to 24-7. He set up the score with a 60-yard run on the previous play. Nevada was forced to punt on its ensuing series, and a 65-yard dash from Williams on the next play from scrimmage made it 31-7.

The rout was on less than three minutes later on a one-yard run from Wilder that capped a 61-yard drive on the fourth play. Stewart was picked off by Tyler Hunter, and after a return of 27 yards, FSU was set up on the visitors' 45-yard line. Five plays later, Winston scored on a 10-yard keeper for a 45-7 contest.

Roberto Aguayo capped the third quarter with a 33-yard make and a 41-point spread.

Freddie Stevenson dove across the goal line from one yard away with 7:11 left in the game, and Ryan Green finished off the blowout on his own 1-yard plunge with 2:48 on the clock.

"People who are kind to us are going to try and make excuses that you are down to your third quarterback but there are no excuses. We talked at the half about keeping our poise and making plays when we had the chance to make plays," said Nevada head coach Brian Polian. "I think you can tell the difference between a BCS top 10 team and a Mountain West -- because when we don't fit it perfectly it's hard for us to rally and catch those guys."

Aguayo's 23-yard field goal capped FSU's opening series of the contest, a 77- yard march executed in 12 plays.

Nevada responded during a drive which bridged the first and second quarters, with Combs finding Wimberly in the end zone near the right sideline for an 11- yard strike and 7-3 edge.

The Seminoles took a 10-7 lead when Winston connected with Shaw for a 24- yard TD strike two possessions later, and after a fruitless drive from the Wolf Pack, FSU came right back to assume a 17-7 edge when Greene snatched a ball from his defender inside the right pylon from 24 yards away.
