Recap: Georgia Tech vs. North Carolina

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - David Sims ran for 99 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets over the North Carolina Tar Heels, 28-20, in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Sims did his damage on 17 carries while Robert Godhigh added 100 yards rushing on just nine attempts for Georgia Tech (3-0, 2-0 ACC). Vad Lee completed 7- of-12 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown while adding 55 yards and a score rushing.

It wasn't quite the start UNC (1-2, 0-1) was looking for in its conference opener. Bryn Renner completed just 14-of-29 pass attempts for 218 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while Romar Morris rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Renner's key target was Eric Ebron, who had six catches for 108 yards and a score.

The Tar Heels opened up the game with a six-play, 58-yard drive, which resulted in a four-yard touchdown run by Morris. UNC then attempted a two- point conversion but Tommy Hibbard's pass fell incomplete. After Renner found Ebron for a 19-yard touchdown pass later in the quarter, the Tar Heels led 13-0.

Georgia Tech struck back in the second quarter with a Sims one-yard touchdown run, but UNC responded quickly with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Renner to Sean Tapley to go back up by 13.

With 30 seconds remaining in the first half, Lee threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Darren Waller to cut the Yellow Jackets' deficit to just six at the break.

Midway through the third quarter, Georgia Tech earned its first lead of the game after Lee ran in a one-yard score.

An 11-play, 92-yard drive for the Yellow Jackets was finished off with a six- yard touchdown run by Sims early in the fourth quarter, putting Georgia Tech up 28-20, and the score would stay that way until the final whistle.

The Yellow Jackets' 324 rushing yards allowed them to control the tempo of the game, as they had more than 40 minutes of possession.

Georgia Tech has now won eight in a row at home against UNC dating back to 1997.
