The Yellow Jackets fumbled on their first possession of the game. Kyle Fuller forced Lee to lose control of the ball and Brandon Facyson recovered for Virginia Tech at the Georgia Tech 27. Two plays later, Coles caught a 21-yard TD pass from Thomas.

Georgia Tech was driving on its next possession when Facyson picked off Lee at the Virginia Tech 13.

The Hokies bridged the first and second quarters with a 10-play, 91-yard scoring drive. Demitri Knowles and Willie Byrn caught passes of 28 and 12 yards, respectively, to put the ball in Georgia Tech territory. Byrn and Knowles added catches of 13 and 22 yards, respectively, before Thomas' 5-yard TD run.

The Yellow Jackets got a 49-yard field goal from Harrison Butker to cut the gap to 14-3 with 7:21 left in the half.

Georgia Tech scored a touchdown on its first possession of the second half. A pair of penalties on Virginia Tech, including one on fourth down, led to Sims' 2-yard TD run.

Cody Journell made a 39-yard field goal early in the fourth to give the Hokies a 17-10 lead.

On the ensuing possession, the Yellow Jackets were stopped on fourth down.

Lee was intercepted by Kendall Fuller with over a minute to play.
