Duke answered right back by returning the ensuing kickoff for the score. Edwards did the work, taking the kick back 100 yards to put the Blue Devils up 17-13.

The visitors would regain the lead with 6:37 left as Mitchell completed an 80- yard touchdown pass to Payton.

The Blue Devils responded quickly. Connette had a five-yard rushing touchdown to put Duke up 24-20 with 3:31 left to play.
