The Cavaliers responded with an eight-play, 57-yard drive that ended with a successful 36-yard field goal by Alec Vozenilek. The Hokies once again made their way into the red zone, but settled for a 30-yard field goal by Kristensen that sent them into the second stanza with a 6-3 lead.

Both sides were held scoreless after halftime. Thomas was intercepted on the Hokies inaugural drive of the third quarter and the Hokies were forced to punt on their next four drives.
