Recap: Arkansas State vs. Georgia State

Jonesboro, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Adam Kennedy threw for 152 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Arkansas State Red Wolves held on for a 35-33 victory over the Georgia State Panthers in a Sun Belt Conference battle at Liberty Bank Stadium.

Kennedy finished 14-of-19 and also rushed for 77 yards while under center for ASU (7-4, 5-1 SBC) as it picked up its fourth consecutive win. Michael Gordon compiled 46 yards and a score on the ground in addition to 53 receiving yards.

Ronnie Bell led GSU (0-11, 0-6) as it narrowly missed its first win of the season with 178 yards and a touchdown on 13-of-25 passing. Albert Wilson was his primary target and finished with 149 yards and a score on seven receptions. Wilson also rushed twice for 104 yards and a touchdown.

ASU took the lead just over a minute after the opening kickoff as Kennedy completed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Darion Griswold.

David Oku fumbled at the ASU 40-yard line, which gave the Panthers excellent starting field position for their next drive. GSU managed to get into in position for Wil Lutz to convert a 40-yard field goal attempt.

GSU took its first lead of the contest with just 1:45 remaining in the first quarter as Bell rushed four yards for a touchdown.

The Panthers extended their lead with 6:42 remaining in the second quarter as Wilson broke away for an 80-yard touchdown run. ASU was unable to put any more points on the scoreboard in the first half, and went into the intermission trailing, 17-7.

The Red Wolves' defensive unit came up with a big play as Chris Stone forced Wilson to fumble. Sterling Young recovered the loose ball and returned it 21 yards for six points. Brian Davis sent his extra-point try through the uprights to narrow GSU's lead to 17-14.

ASU's special teams unit then made an impact as Brock Barnhill blocked a punt which Raziel Valgis returned 12 yards for a score.

After falling behind, 24-21, GSU answered as Bell completed a 17-yard strike to Kelton Hill to put the Panthers ahead, 24-21, with 9:11 left in the third period. ASU responded as Gordon rushed five yards for a touchdown at the 3:39 mark of the third frame to put the hosts back in front with a four- point lead.

GSU narrowed the deficit to 28-27 in the opening seconds of the final period as Lutz connected on a 35-yard field goal attempt.

The Red Wolves extended their lead with 11 minutes left in regulation as Kennedy concluded an eight-play, 64-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown pass to J.D. McKissic.

GSU managed to make it a two-point game as Hill completed a 70-yard touchdown pass to Wilson with 2:13 showing on the clock. However, Bell's pass on the two-point conversion fell incomplete which left ASU with a 35-33 advantage. The Red Wolves used up the rest of the remaining time after picking up a crucial first down.

Despite the loss, the Panthers amassed 432 yards of total offense while limiting ASU to only 290 total yards.
