Recap: Arkansas State vs. Troy

Jonesboro, AR (Sports Network) - Fredi Knighten scored the go-ahead touchdown and Arkansas State forced two fourth quarter turnovers to hang on for a 41-34 victory over Troy in the conference opener for both teams on Thursday.

An interception by Rocky Hayes set up Knighten's 13-yard score, and the Red Wolves (2-1, 1-0 Sun Belt) made the lead stand when Frankie Jackson picked off Corey Robinson with 55 seconds to go.

Michael Gordon and David Oku each rushed for two touchdowns, with Gordon amassing 115 yards on eight carries and Oku going 74 yards on 21 rushes. Adam Kennedy ended 20-of-34 for 282 yards and a touchdown.

Robinson was picked off three times for the Trojans (2-1, 0-1), who had four total turnovers. He finished 30-of-51 for 371 yards, throwing touchdowns to Eric Thomas and Bryan Holmes, both of whom eclipsed 100 yards receiving on six catches in the setback.

The score was tied, 34-34, early in the fourth after Deon Anthony and Chandler Worthy connected on a 53-yard completion for a touchdown. Troy would have taken the lead, but kicker Will Scott missed the extra point.

Arkansas State allowed 14 unanswered points to fall behind, 21-20, at the break, but scored on its first touch in the third quarter. In concluding a lengthy 14-play march, the Red Wolves punched it into the end zone on an 11- yard run by Gordon to retake the lead.

Robinson and Holmes hooked up for a 58-yard touchdown on the ensuing drive to put Troy back in front, 28-27, but the Red Wolves countered when Gordon broke away on a 64-yard touchdown run with 3:50 left in the third.

The Red Wolves scored 20 points in the first quarter on a 55-yard touchdown catch by Allen Muse, who had 158 yards on six catches, and a pair of Oku rushing TDs, but didn't score again the rest of the half.

Jordan Chunn had a 1-yard score for Troy in the first and Deon Rush had a 2- yard plunge in the second. The Trojans then took the lead, 21-20, with six seconds left in the half on Thomas' 3-yard catch.
