Recap: Missouri vs. Arkansas State
Columbia, MO (Sports Network) - James Franklin completed 20-of-29 passes for 255 yards and three scores as the Missouri Tigers used a strong second half to take down the Arkansas State Red Wolves, 41-19, in a non-conference matchup at Faurot Field.
James also added 33 yards and a touchdown rushing for Missouri (4-0), which is off to its best start since 2010 when it opened with seven straight wins. The team ran for 239 yards, with Russell Hansbrough leading the way with 96 yards on just eight carries. Dorial Green-Beckham hauled in four passes for 95 yards and two scores, while L'Damien Washington tallied six receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown.
For Arkansas State (2-3), Adam Kennedy threw for a career-high 308 yards on 37-of-46 passing, tossing a touchdown and an interception. J.D. McKissic set a school record with 15 receptions for 117 yards, while Julian Jones was also outstanding with 10 receptions for 136 yards and a score. David Oku earned 19 carries on the night but only put up 36 yards.
Arkansas State successfully moved the ball against Missouri early in the game but had to settle for a pair of Brian Davis field goals (41, 21). The Tigers took a 7-6 lead late in the first quarter on an eight-yard touchdown run by Marcus Murphy.
The Tigers added to their lead early in the second quarter following a 68-yard touchdown pass from Franklin to Green-Beckham, though the Red Wolves answered later in the frame when Kennedy hooked up with Jones on a 17-yard scoring strike.
Arkansas State took its first lead of the game early in the second half when Davis connected on a 44-yard field goal.
Missouri responded later in the frame by marching 94 yards in nine plays, with Franklin finishing the drive off with a five-yard touchdown pass to Washington as the Tigers regained the advantage, 20-16.
The Tigers padded their lead early in the fourth quarter after Henry Josey capped off another lengthy drive (nine plays, 87 yards) with a one-yard touchdown run.
Davis added another field goal (33 yards), but Missouri responded with a touchdown, as Franklin rushed in a score from nine yards out. The Tigers went on to add one more touchdown before it was all said and done, with Franklin and Green-Beckham hooking up on a five-yard score.
Despite giving up 425 yards to Arkansas State, the Missouri defense was impressive with five sacks, with two by Michael Sam. Andrew Wilson racked up 17 tackles.Game Notes
