Recap: South Alabama vs. Louisiana

Mobile, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Kendall Houston scored a pair of rushing touchdowns as the South Alabama Jaguars took out the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, 30-8, in Sun Belt Conference action at Ladd Peebles Stadium.

Houston carried the ball nine times and gained just 18 net yards for the Jaguars (6-6, 4-3 Sun Belt) as they closed out the regular season on a three- game win streak. Quarterback Ross Metheny connected on 13-of-23 passes for 171 yards for the hosts, while Jay Jones produced a game-high 105 rushing yards on 19 carries.

The Ragin' Cajuns (8-4, 5-2) were held to their fewest points of the season as they bowed for the second time in as many games. Quarterbacks Brooks Haack, Jalen Nixon and D'Shaie Landor combined to hit on a mere 9-of-26 for 143 yards, with Nixon tossing a TD and an interception.

South Alabama rattled off 30 unanswered points in the first half and never looked back, beginning with a 40-yard field goal by Aleem Sunanon at the 5:53 mark of the first quarter. Later in the period Houston landed in the end zone on a one-yard run and barely a minute later he again crossed the goal line from four yards out.

In the second quarter Sunanon converted field goals of 19 and 20 yards to make the score 23-0, while an interception by Qudarius Ford in the final moments of the half was returned 42 yards for a score in order to give USA a commanding 30-0 advantage at the break.

Following a scoreless third quarter, the Ragin' Cajuns finally landed on the scoreboard as Nixon hooked up with Ricky Johnson on a 47-yard TD pass play with 4:50 remaining.

Louisiana, which generated just 212 yards of total offense, was playing without quarterback Terrance Broadway who was dealing with a wrist injury.

Before dropping the regular-season finale the Ragin' Cajuns already had their plans made for the postseason, setting up against Tulane in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 21.
