Recap: Texas State vs. Wyoming
San Marcos, TX (Sports Network) - Robert Lowe ran for 138 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Texas State Bobcats to a 42-21 win over the Wyoming Cowboys in non-conference play at Bobcat Stadium.
Lowe carried the ball 30 times for the Bobcats (3-1), while Chris Nutall accounted for 62 yards and two more scores on 11 rushing attempts for the hosts. Quarterback Tyler Jones converted 14-of-18 for 196 yards and a TD.
The Cowboys (3-2), who saw their three-game win streak come to an end, were led by Brandon Miller who gained 72 net yards and scored twice on 14 rushing attempts. Brett Smith converted 25-of-48 for 292 yards and a score through the air, but he was picked off once and sacked three times in the setback.
Texas State managed the only score of the first quarter when Lowe converted a one-yard touchdown run.
Wyoming tied the game up early in the second quarter on a Miller four-yard scoring run to cap off a nine-play, 86-yard drive.
Lightning delayed play midway through the second quarter for three hours and 28 minutes.
When the action resumed, the Pokes took the lead when Miller crossed the goal line on a five-yard run.
However, with just 29 seconds left in the first half, Jones hooked up with Ben Ijah on a 26-yard touchdown pass play for the Bobcats, tying the score at 14-14 heading into the break.
Texas State ripped off 21 straight points in the second half, beginning with a five-yard TD run by Lowe, while Nutall added scoring runs of 22 and five yards in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
Smith and the Cowboys finally responded at the 11:12 mark of the fourth when he found Robert Herron with an 11-yard TD pass, but still the visitors trailed by 14 points.
Lowe capped off the long night with a 19-yard touchdown runs with only three seconds remaining, providing TSU with a very comfortable win.
Texas State controlled the action for close to 38 minutes, generating 452 yards of total offense, even though the squad converted just 4-of-14 on third down.Game Notes
