Recap: Akron vs. Ohio U

Akron, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Ohio University Bobcats made easy work of their Mid-American Conference rival, the Akron Zips, by way of a 43-3 victory at InfoCision Stadium that was led offensively by Tyler Tettleton and his two passing touchdowns.

Tettleton finished with 171 yards on 14-of-21 passing for Ohio (4-1, 1-0 MAC), which has won four straight since dropping its opener against Louisville. Beau Blankenship had 67 yards on 14 attempts, while Donte Foster was the team's top receiver with 76 yards and a touchdown on four catches.

Akron (1-5, 0-2) struggled to move the ball on Ohio, posting just 157 yards of total offense. Kyle Pohl had 101 yards and an interception on 11-of-26 passing. Jawon Chisholm finished with 60 yards on 15 rushing attempts.

The Zips did not start the game off well. Their first chance with the ball resulted in a safety. A botched punt return turned into two points for the Bobcats after Mykel Traylor-Bennett recovered the ball in his own end zone.

Akron redeemed itself back by scoring on its next drive, going up 3-2 after a 31-yard field goal by Robert Stein.

The Bobcats' first touchdown came when Tettleton completed a 13-yard scoring strike to Donte Foster with 3:02 left in the first.

Early in the second quarter, Tettleton completed a 43-yard pass to Foster to get the Bobcats deep in Akron territory, ultimately leading to one-yard touchdown toss from Tettleton to Troy Mangen.

Ryan Boykin was able to run the ball in for a one-yard score to give the Bobcats a 23-3 lead with 4:45 left in the first half.

The Bobcats' defense got involved with the scoring before the first half was out, as a fumble by Pohl was returned 18 yards by Thad Ingol for a touchdown.

Ohio continued to pour it on in the second half. Josiah Yazdani kicked a pair of field goals (35, 28) and Daz'mond Patterson rushed in a one-yard score.

Pohl was sacked eight times, with Ty Branz recorded 2.5 sacks for the Bobcats. The Zips were also plagued by 12 penalties that resulted in 135 yards.

Dorm Report: Defensive breakout candidates

While Jadeveon Clowney, Khalil Mack, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and the like have moved on to the NFL, there is still plenty of talent on the defensive side of the ball left in college football.
