Recap: Kent State vs. Bowling Green

Kent, OH (Sports Network) - Matt Johnson completed 19-of-25 passes for 357 yards and two touchdowns, as the Bowling Green Falcons rolled to a 41-22 win over the Kent State Golden Flashes in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams at Dix Stadium.

Travis Greene carried 24 times for 145 yards and a score for the Falcons (2-0, 1-0 MAC), who were coming off last week's 34-7 rout over defending conference champion Tulsa. Shaun Joplin (113 yards) and Ryan Burbrink (101 yards, TD) both went over 100 yards receiving in the victory.

The Golden Flashes (1-1, 0-1) came up short in their bid to try and extend their regular-season winning streak to 12 in a row. Colin Reardon threw for 164 yards and two TDs, while Chris Humphrey caught four passes for 84 yards and a score.

Bowling Green marched 77 yards on nine plays during its opening drive, which ended with a one-yard touchdown plunge by Greene.

Kent State answered right back on the ensuing possession, as Reardon found Humphrey for a 42-yard scoring strike. Humphrey then tacked on a two-point conversion to give the Golden Flashes an 8-7 first-quarter lead.

BGSU regained the lead on Tyler Tate's 30-yard field goal in the opening minute of the second quarter.

The Golden Flashes made it a 15-10 game on Reardon's 12-yard touchdown pass to Casey Pierce at the 9:40 mark of the second quarter.

The seesaw battle continued on the ensuing possession, as BGSU regained the lead on Andre Givens' three-yard touchdown run, capping a six-play, 75-yard drive.

Kent State went back on top, 22-17, on Trayion Durham's two-yard touchdown run with 4:40 remaining until halftime.

However, BGSU went into the locker room with a 24-22 halftime lead following Johnson's seven-yard scoring strike to Jared Cohen in the final minute of the half to finish off a 10-play, 71-yard drive.

The Falcons began to take control in the second half. After a 41-yard field goal from Tate midway through the third quarter, Johnson hooked up with Burbrink for a 92-yard scoring strike to give the Falcons a 34-22 lead with 4:33 to play in the third quarter.

William Houston tacked on a one-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to account for the final score.

BGSU racked up 576 yards of total offense on the day and held a 13-minute edge in time of possession.
