Recap: Buffalo vs. Massachusetts
Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Branden Oliver rushed for 216 yards and a touchdown as the Buffalo Bulls defeated the Massachusetts Minutemen, 32-3, in a Mid-American Conference matchup at UB Stadium.
Oliver carried the load for Buffalo (5-2, 3-0 MAC) with 43 rush attempts while Joe Licata completed 18-of-27 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown. Fred Lee led the Bulls in receiving with 70 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions. Buffalo moves to 3-0 in conference play for the first time in school history with the win.
The Minutemen (1-6, 1-2) struggled to gather any momentum offensively. A.J. Doyle completed just 14-of-28 passes for 162 yards and interception while Jamal Wilson carried the ball 15 times for only 42 yards. Despite the team's struggles, Tajae Sharpe still managed to have solid game with seven catches for 94 yards. UMass has now lost 10 of its last 11 games.
After a scoreless first quarter, Buffalo got things going in the second. Patrick Clarke hit a 44-yard field goal just seconds after the conclusion of the first frame. Soon after, Buffalo's Khalil Mack intercepted a pass from Doyle and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown. With 48 seconds left in the first half, Clarke kicked in a 27-yard field goal to increase the Bulls lead to 13-0. Despite having such little time, The Minutemen managed to drive down field and set up a 42-yard field goal from Blake Lucas with seven seconds remaining in the half to put UMass on the board.
It was all Buffalo in the second half. Clarke hit a 27-yard field goal and the Bulls defense managed to tackle UMass' Wilson for a safety. In the fourth quarter, Licata found Lee for a seven-yard touchdown pass and Oliver ran in a five-yard touchdown to help the Bulls claim the commanding, 32-3 decision.
UMass turned the ball over three times and managed just 247 yards of total offense while Buffalo had no turnovers and recorded 382 yards of total offense.Game Notes
