Recap: Miami-Ohio vs. Buffalo

Oxford, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthone Taylor rushed for 154 yards and Branden Oliver gained 150 yards on the ground, as the Buffalo Bulls easily dismissed the Miami-Ohio RedHawks, 44-7, in Mid-American Conference action at Yager Stadium.

Oliver also ran in a pair of touchdowns for Buffalo (8-3, 6-1 MAC), which grabbed a half-game lead over Bowling Green for first place in the East Division, with a matchup against the Falcons on tap for the regular-season finale on Nov. 29. Joe Licata completed 20-of-32 passes for 172 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and he connected with 10 different receivers on the night.

Austin Gearing had an off night under center for Miami-Ohio (0-11, 0-7), completing just 5-of-19 passes for 65 yards with an interception while gaining 40 yards rushing on 21 attempts. Drew Kummer (two carries, 25 yards) scored the only touchdown for the RedHawks, who have lost 15 straight games dating back to last season.

After scoreless first quarter, Buffalo made up for lost time in the second stanza with four unanswered touchdowns. Licata hooked up with Alex Dennison on a one-yard touchdown pass early in the frame, which was followed up by two rushing scores by Oliver, a one-yard plunge and a 10-yard scamper. With under a minute to go before halftime, Gearing fumbled after being sacked by Khalil Mack, and Okoye Houston picked up the loose ball and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown to give the Bulls a commanding 28-0 lead.

The Bulls added to their lead early in the third quarter with a 22-yard field goal by Patrick Clarke.

Clarke chipped in two more field goals early in the fourth quarter (28, 38). Backup quarterback Tony Daniel entered the blowout late and threw an 11-yard touchdown to Devon Hughes.

The RedHawks avoided the shutout with a two-yard touchdown rush by Kummer with 3:04 left in the game.

Mack register three sacks on the evening, and with three forced fumbles, the senior linebacker now has an NCAA-record 16 in his career.
