Recap: UNLV vs. Central Mich

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Caleb Herring threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns as he helped guide the UNLV Rebels to a 31-21 win over the Central Michigan Chippewas in non-conference play at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Herring completed all but four of his 28 pass attempts in the outing for the Rebels (1-2), with seven balls being caught by Devante Davis who finished with 140 yards and all three aerial scores for the hosts. Running back Tim Cornett contributed with a game-high 94 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

The Chippewas (1-2) were paced by Cooper Rush who hit 23-of-46 passes for 265 yards and a score, but he was also intercepted twice and sacked three times in the losing effort. Titus Davis reeled in eight passes for 116 yards and a score, while Saylor Lavallii chipped in with 65 rushing yards and two TDs on 19 attempts.

Lavallii capped off a pair of 11-play drives for the Chippewas in the first and second quarters with touchdown runs of three yards each, giving the visitors a 14-0 advantage. Midway through the second frame Rush hooked up with Titus Davis on a 20-yard TD pass play to give CMU a 21-0 advantage, but from there the Chippewas were held scoreless while UNLV ripped off 31-unaswered points.

The run for the Rebels began with a 12-yard TD catch by Devante Davis with under a minute remaining in the first half. Davis also notched a 42-yard TD grab in the third, but not before Cornett slipped into the end zone from 12 yards out.

Tied at 21-21 heading into the fourth, UNLV kicker Nolan Kohorst gave the hosts their first lead of the night on a 34-yard field goal and seven minutes later Davis gave the team some breathing room with another 12-yard TD reception, capping a 13-play, 94-yard drive.

With the victory the Rebels, who had been outscored 109-36 through the first two outings of 2013, snapped a five-game slide.
