Recap: Houston vs. Memphis

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Kenneth Farrow had a pair of touchdowns and a two-point conversion, as the Houston Cougars claimed a 25-15 win over the Memphis Tigers in American Athletic Conference play from BBVA Compass Stadium.

Farrow had just 33 yards rushing but scored his team's final two touchdowns. John O'Korn completed only 13-of-30 passes for 198 yards and a score for the Cougars (5-0, 2-0 AAC), who were coming off a bye. Jake Elliott made all five of his field-goal attempts.

The Tigers (1-4, 0-2) were coming off a tough loss to UCF and ultimately were unable to overcome four lost fumbles on the day. Paxton Lynch threw for 222 yards on 21-of-41 passing in the loss.

O'Korn got UH on the scoreboard first with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Spencer at the 10:13 mark of the opening frame.

From there, it became a game of field goals. Elliott made a 33-yarder late in the first quarter followed by a 50-yarder at the 11:35 mark of the second to make it a 7-6 game. The former of those field goals capped a 13-play drive that lasted more than seven minutes, but Memphis had to settle for three points after back-to-back false start penalties inside the red zone.

UH pushed its lead to 10-6 on Richie Leone's 24-yard field goal midway through the second quarter after a fumble recovery gave the Cougars the ball on the Memphis 11-yard line.

Later in the second quarter, the Tigers went on an 11-play, 59-yard drive but once again had to settle for three points as Elliott kicked a 24-yard field goal in the final minute of the half.

Memphis took its first lead, 12-10, at the 7:34 mark of the third quarter following a 42-yarder from Elliott. The Tigers kicker tacked on a 38-yarder three minutes later to make it a 15-10 game.

The Cougars finally capitalized with just under two minutes to play in the third quarter, as Farrow found the end zone on a one-yard run. Farrow then converted the two-point attempt on a pass from O'Korn to put UH on top, 18-15.

Farrow was not done yet. He pushed the Cougars' lead to 25-15 on a six-yard run at the 10:21 mark of the fourth quarter, capping a six-play, 62-yard drive, and the UH defense held strong the rest of the way.

UH managed to win despite compiling only 247 yards of total offense and averaging a mere 1.3 yards per rush as a team.
