Recap: Air Force vs. UNLV
USAFA, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Cornett rushed for a career-high 220 yards and four touchdowns as the UNLV Runnin' Rebels ran over the Air Force Falcons, 41-21, in a Mountain West Conference matchup at Falcon Stadium.
Caleb Herring threw for 141 yards on 15-of-18 passing and added 56 yards and two scores on the ground for UNLV (6-5, 4-3 MWC), which earned six wins in a season for the first time since 2003.
Anthony LaCoste rushed for 77 yards on 16 carries to lead the way for Air Force (3-8, 0-7). Nate Romine threw for 72 yards and a score on just 3-of-11 passing and Jon Lee added 66 yards on seven carries.
A 22-yard touchdown run from Cornett early in the first quarter got the Runnin' Rebels out to a fast start. However Nolan Kohorst's extra point attempt was blocked leaving UNLV with a 6-0 lead.
Herring would score a pair of rushing touchdowns in the period as well, one from a yard out and the other from six, to further extend UNLV's lead.
Cornett added another rushing touchdown on a seven-yard run to give UNLV a 27-7 lead with 9:47 to play in the second quarter.
The Falcons finally broke up the scoring streak from the Runnin' Rebels with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Alex Ludowig from Romine less than a minute later.
Cornett found his way into the end zone for a third time with less than four minutes to play in the half as he scored on a three-yard run. After the Runnin' Rebels were yet again unable to convert the extra point attempt, they led 33-7.
Air Force would answer before the break as Broam Hart scored on a one-yard touchdown run with eight seconds remaining in the second quarter.
The Falcons comeback continued in the third quarter when D.J. Johnson scored on a one-yard touchdown rush with just over five minutes to play in the period.
However the Falcons final four drives stalled and Cornett scored his fourth touchdown of the game on a 46-yard run late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for UNLV.Game Notes
