Recap: Hawaii vs. Colorado State

Honolulu, HI (SportsNetwork.com) - Kapri Bibbs ran for 137 yards and three touchdowns as the Colorado State Rams held on to defeat the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, 35-28, in Mountain West Conference action at Aloha Stadium.

Bibbs carried the ball 33 times for the Rams (4-4, 2-1 MWC) as they notched their second straight win and the third in the last four outings. Quarterback Garrett Grayson converted 15-of-26 passes for 177 yards and a score as well.

The Rainbow Warriors (0-7, 0-5) were paced by quarterback Sean Schroeder who connected on 28-of-49 for 349 yards and two touchdowns, but he was also sacked three times and picked off once. Chris Gant was responsible for a game-high eight receptions for 159 yards and a score.

Colorado State jumped out to a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter as Bibbs made his way into the end zone on a five-yard run and Max Morgan returned a fumble 73 yards for a score.

On the ensuing possession, Hawaii finally broke through when Schroeder and Gant combined on a 38-yard TD pass play, cutting the lead to seven points.

The teams traded scores during a wild second frame, beginning with a 20-yard TD catch by CSU's Crockett Gillmore to make the score 21-7.

Less than two minutes later it was Schroeder who combined with Bill Stutzmann on a 27-yard scoring play.

Bibbs scored his second TD of the night on a 10-yard run at the 6:44 mark of the period and then added a 13-yard score with less than three minutes to play before intermission, although in between Hawaii kicker Tyler Hadden closed the gap with a 39-yard field goal. At the break, the Rams owned a 35-17 edge.

Following a scoreless third quarter, the Rainbow Warriors drew closer when Schroeder called his own number and carried the ball across the goal line from two yards away. A successful two-point conversion was then followed four minutes later by a 20-yard field goal, making the score 35-28 with 2:54 remaining.

The Rams punted on all seven of their second-half possessions, the last of those coming with less than two minutes to play. Hawaii had one last gasp at a potential game-tying touchdown, but on fourth down Taylor Graham was inserted into the game for the final play and saw his pass from near midfield deflected out of the end zone.

Hawaii finished with 418 yards of total offense, but the effort of Morgan on the CSU defense helped to offset those yards as he made a game-high 15 tackles.
