Recap: Boston College vs. Arizona

Shreveport, LA ( - Ka'Deem Carey carried the ball 27 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Arizona Wildcats to a 42-19 thrashing of the Boston College Eagles in the Advocare V100 Bowl.

The game featured two of the top running backs in the country, with Boston College's Andre Williams rushing for 75 yards and a score on 26 carries. Carey's performance on Tuesday made him Arizona's all-time all-purpose yards leader.

"He's the hardest runner in the country and I think he's the best running back in the country," said Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez about Williams. "And he's still got some things to learn. So another year and he'd be just right."

B.J. Denker completed 17-of-24 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns for the Wildcats (8-5), who made their fifth bowl appearance in the last six seasons. Denker also carried the ball 14 times for 51 yards and a score.

Nate Phillips set an Arizona bowl record for receiving yards in a game with 193.

Chase Rettig connected on 16-of-26 passes for 191 yards and two interceptions for the Eagles (7-6), who have lost four straight bowl games.

Alex Amidon caught 10 passes for 129 yards to break Pete Mitchell's career receptions record with 191.

"I thought Arizona did an unbelievable great job of taking advantage of opportunities to gain momentum," said Boston College head coach Steve Addazio said. "And then they really put the pedal down. We had to execute at a high level and we failed to do that at certain points."

Each team turned the ball over once during the game's first nine plays. Rettig was intercepted by Jared Tevis on the sixth play, but Carey fumbled on the ensuing Arizona possession.

The Wildcats' second possession of the game resulted in a touchdown. Phillips caught passes of 56 and 23 yards before Carey scored from two yards out.

Nate Freese's 32-yard field goal cut the gap to 7-3 with 1:11 left in the first quarter. Freese added a 41-yarder early in the second period to make it a one-point contest.

On the next Boston College possession, Rettig was intercepted by William Parks, who returned the ball 69 yards for a touchdown and a 14-6 Arizona lead.

After the Eagles went three-and-out, the Wildcats put together a 10-play, 80- yard drive. Trey Griffey capped the series with a 26-yard TD catch, making it 21-6 at the break.

Carey opened the second half with a 6-yard score. Phillips caught three passes during the march.

Phillips added a 42-yard catch on the next Arizona drive, and Denker capped the 93-yard series with a 14-yard TD run.

Griffey's 3-yard touchdown catch early in the fourth quarter made it a 42-6 contest.

Williams and Tyler Rouse scored on the ground for Boston College in the final stanza.
