Recap: Georgia vs. Auburn
Athens, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Todd Gurley looked sharp in his return from a four-game suspension, but left with a left knee injury late in the fourth quarter of No. 16 Georgia's 34-7 win over ninth-ranked Auburn.
Gurley took a handoff to the left side of the line with just over five minutes left and made a cut to his right off of his left leg before immediately grabbing at his knee. He was helped to the sideline and did not return.
Gurley carried the ball 29 times for 138 yards and one touchdown for the Bulldogs (8-2, 6-2 SEC), who have won two in a row since a loss to Florida on Nov. 1. Nick Chubb rushed for 144 yards and two scores on 19 carries.
Hutson Mason completed 10-of-19 passes for 123 yards and one touchdown for Georgia.
Nick Marshall connected on 11-of-23 passes for 112 yards and an interception for the Tigers (7-3, 4-3), who have lost two straight. Cameron Artis-Payne carried the ball 20 times for 86 yards and a score.
Auburn converted a trio of third downs on the game's opening possession to grab the early lead. After Marshall ran for nine yards on 3rd-and-1, Artis- Payne ripped off a 26-yard TD run.
Gurley returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, but it was called back due to a holding penalty. The Bulldogs then moved the ball into Auburn territory before punting.
Georgia was forced to punt again on its next possession, but Auburn wide receiver Quan Bray fumbled on the return. The Bulldogs recovered and Malcolm Mitchell caught a 7-yard TD pass from Mason four plays later.
The Bulldogs took the lead by putting together an 11-play, 83-yard drive early in the second quarter. The home team ran the ball eight times, culminating in Chubb's 9-yard score on 4th-and-1.
Georgia's next offensive series was kept alive on a roughing the kicker penalty. The Bulldogs eventually moved the ball to the Tigers' 10-yard line of before settling for a 32-yard Marshall Morgan field goal.
Gurley scored from three yards out with 7:28 left in the third quarter to extend the lead to 24-7. The Bulldogs ran the ball on all seven plays during the 57-yard drive.
After Auburn turned the ball over on downs, Morgan hit a 28-yard field goal to make it 27-7.
Marshall was intercepted by Amarlo Herrera early in the fourth. Chubb capped an ensuing 11-play, 98-yard drive with an 11-yard TD run.Game Notes
