Recap: Texas Tech vs. Arkansas
Lubbock, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Collins racked up 212 rushing yards and Jonathan Williams ran for four touchdowns to lead the Arkansas Razorbacks to a 49-28 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a non-conference matchup at Jones AT&T Stadium.
Williams finished with 145 yards on 22 attempts for the Razorbacks (2-1), while Collins scored on two of his 27 carries. Brandon Allen completed 6-of-12 pass attempts for 61 yards and scored once on the ground for the visitors. Martell Spaight anchored the Arkansas defense with 11 total stops and an interception.
Davis Webb paced the Red Raiders (2-1) with 252 yards and three touchdowns on 27-of-45 passing efficiency. Webb, who was picked off twice, also scored a touchdown on the ground. Jakeem Grant led TTU with 85 yards and a touchdown on six receptions, while Reginald Davis tallied four catches for 45 yards and a score.
TTU struck first as Webb completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Davis just over two minutes after the opening kickoff. Arkansas evened the score at the 8:36 point of the first quarter, as Williams rushed six yards across the goal line for a score.
Williams then scored on a 13-yard touchdown run with 1:26 left in the first frame to give the Razorbacks a 14-7 advantage on the scoreboard.
The Red Raiders answered less than two minutes into the second period, as Webb found D.J. Polite-Bray for a three-yard touchdown pass. Arkansas responded with a five-play, 71-yard drive that ended with a 15-yard touchdown run by Collins.
The back-and-forth continued as Webb scored on a three-yard run at the 6:45 mark of the second quarter. Arkansas took a 28-21 lead into the intermission after Williams produced his third touchdown of the first half with a 12-yard run into the end zone.
The Razorbacks began the third quarter with a 13-play, 75-yard drive which lasted over seven minutes and resulted in a five-yard touchdown run by Brandon Allen. TTU also found the end zone in the third quarter, as Webb found Grant for a 39-yard touchdown pass.
Arkansas scored a pair of touchdowns in the early part of the fourth stanza to put the game out of reach. Williams capped off a 13-play, 82-yard drive with a seven-yard rush for a score and Collins sliced through the defense on an 84- yard touchdown run to give the Razorbacks a commanding, 49-28 lead, with just under 11 minutes left in regulation. Neither side managed to produce any points the rest of the way.
The Razorbacks moved the chains on 8-of-12 third-down plays and compiled 499 total yards of offense compared to only 353 by TTU.Game Notes
