Recap: Miss State vs. Southern Miss

Starkville, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Dak Prescott threw for 284 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Mississippi State Bulldogs to an easy, 49-0 victory over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at Davis Wade Stadium.

Prescott completed 18-of-26 pass attempts, but was intercepted once for Mississippi State (1-0). Josh Robinson rushed for 87 yards on 14 carries and De'Runnya Wilson and Fred Ross each had a pair of touchdown receptions.

Nick Mullens completed just 20-of-42 pass attempts and was intercepted twice for Southern Miss (0-1). He finished with 212 passing yards.

A 25-yard touchdown pass from Prescott to Wilson less than three minutes into the first quarter got things started for the Bulldogs.

Mississippi State extended its lead with a one-yard touchdown run from Nick Griffin early in the second frame.

Prescott fired his second and third touchdown passes of the game later in the period, hooking up with Ross from 35 yards out and Malcolm Johnson from 23.

After halftime Prescott added to his total, throwing a 24-yard touchdown pass to Wilson.

The rout continued when Jay Hughes returned a blocked field goal attempt 68 yards for a touchdown.

Damian Williams, who came in for Prescott in the third quarter, made his mark on the game when he threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Ross in the final quarter.

The Bulldogs had 550 yards of total offense compared to 283 for the Golden Eagles.
