Recap: Miss State vs. South Alabama

Mobile, Al (SportsNetwork.com) - Dak Prescott completed the trifecta by passing for, rushing and catching touchdowns as the Mississippi State Bulldogs defeated the South Alabama Jaguars, 35-3, in a non-conference battle at Ladd- Peebles Stadium.

Prescott connected on 13-of-21 passing for 201 yards and a touchdown, and added 139 yards on 14 carries with a score. Josh Robinson pitched in with 77 yards and two touchdowns on the ground for the Bulldogs (3-0).

As for the Jaguars (1-1), Brandon Bridge completed 21-of-39 passing for 203 yards and an interception. Jereme Jones chipped in with seven catches for 76 yards in the loss.

Prescott opened the scoring when he connected on a touchdown pass with Malcolm Johnson from 15-yards out with 4:56 left to play in the first quarter.

The Jaguars got on the board when Aleem Sunanon made a 26-yard field goal to cut the lead to 7-3 five and a half minutes into the second quarter.

Robinson ran it in from two yards out to give the Bulldogs a 14-3 lead with seven minutes to play in the second quarter. The run capped off a eight-play, 72-yard drive.

After South Alabama went three-and-out, receiver Jameon Lewis connected with Prescott on a 24-yard touchdown strike to increase the lead to 18 points with 4:27 left in the first half.

On the first play after the touchdown, Will Redmond intercepted Bridge to give Mississippi State the ball back deep in Jaguars territory. Robinson capitalized on the great field position and ran in from 15 yards out to push the lead to 28-3 at the half.

With 7:17 to play in the third quarter, Prescott increased the Bulldog lead to 35-3 with his 40-yard touchdown run on the only play of the drive that closed out the scoring.

The Bulldogs defense held the Jaguars to just 57 yards on the ground. Preston Smith accumulated two sacks, a forced fumble and a blocked field goal for Mississippi State, which totaled 10 tackles for loss and five team sacks against South Alabama.
