Recap: Florida State vs. Citadel

Tallahassee, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jameis Winston threw two touchdown passes and the top-ranked Florida State Seminoles disposed of The Citadel, 37-12, to extend the best win streak in program history to 18 games.

Winston completed 22-of-27 passes for 256 yards in just 2 1/2 quarters of work, exiting midway through the third period with his Seminoles leading comfortably. Dalvin Cook and Karlos Williams picked up 67 and 66 yards, respectively, on the ground. Both runners added a touchdown in the rout.

The defending champion Seminoles (2-0) overcame a shaky first half last week against Oklahoma State to top the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium, the home of January's national title game.

Roberto Aguayo kicked three field goals for the second straight week for Florida State, which will have a week off before hosting No. 23 Clemson.

"Very good win. I thought Citadel did a very nice job in a game we knew they had some difficult stuff to play against, their offense," said FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher.

The Citadel (0-2) ran its triple option attack with some success against the stout FSU front, racking up 250 yards on the ground. Quarterback Aaron Miller led the group with 61 yards on 14 carries.

Miller and backup Dominique Allen each threw touchdowns to account for the 12 Bulldogs points.

The Citadel failed to convert a 4th-and-1 on its first possession and the Seminoles took advantage, as Williams ran four times during a six-play drive and finished it with a 1-yard touchdown plunge.

Four of Winston's five completions on FSU's next possession went for first downs. He hooked up with Jesus Wilson for a 12-yard score.

Cook ran it in from five yards out early in the second quarter, and Winston put the finishing touches on a dominant half by dumping a short TD pass to his tight end, Nick O'Leary, 29 seconds before halftime.

Winston only missed one pass in 17 tries in the first half, completing at least two passes to five different receivers. All four FSU drives in the opening 30 minutes went for touchdowns.

"They nickel and dimed us in the first half and kept field position and ate some clock," Fisher continued. "We were extremely efficient on offense. Had it four times, scored four touchdowns."

The Bulldogs kept the Seminoles out of the end zone in the second half. A pair of short Aguayo field goals in the third quarter made it 34-0.

Miller completed just three passes for the game. One of them, a 10-yard touchdown to Rudder Brown early in the fourth quarter, put The Citadel on the scoreboard.

Aguayo kicked his third field goal with 4:47 to play, and Allen led a 13-play scoring drive that ended with him finding DeAndre Schoultz from 10 yards out.
