Recap: Hawaii vs. Oregon State

Honolulu, HI (SportsNetwork.com) - Sean Mannion threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns, as the Oregon State Beavers held on to defeat the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, 38-30, in non-conference action at Aloha Stadium.

Mannion completed 26-of-37 passes for Oregon State (2-0), with Victor Bolden (11 receptions, 119 yards, TD) acting as his primary target. Terron Ward impressed in the rushing attack, turning 15 carries into 124 yards and two touchdowns.

For Hawaii (0-2), Ikaika Woolsey was inefficient under center, going just 20- of-50 passing for 236 yards with an interception, although he did rush for 31 yards and a touchdown. Joey Iosefa had just 54 yards on 19 carries but scored three short touchdowns, and Marcus Kemp caught five passes for 102 yards.

The Beavers got off to a fast start in the opening quarter, as they held a 14-0 lead midway through the frame on a pair of Mannion scoring strikes. The first went to Richard Mullaney for four yards, and the other found the grasp of Connor Hamlett from five yards out.

Oregon State went up by three scores early in the second quarter following a 32-yard touchdown run by Ward.

Hawaii finally got on the board at the 10:52 mark of the second quarter when Iosefa rushed in a two-yard touchdown.

Garrett Owens knocked through a 27-yard field goal for the Beavers with just over six minutes to go until halftime.

Oregon State's comfortable lead ballooned to 31-7 just prior to intermission on another touchdown run by Ward, this time from two yards out.

The Beavers opened up the second half on an eight-play, 52-yard drive, capped off by an eight-yard touchdown pass from Mannion to Bolden.

Hawaii put an end to Oregon State's run early in the fourth quarter on Iosefa's second touchdown of the night, a one-yarder.

Iosefa ran in a five-yard score less than three minutes later, then following an Oregon State turnover, Tyler Hadden converted a 33-yard field goal for the Rainbow Warriors.

Hawaii's prolific fourth quarter continued when Woolsey rushed in a two-yard score with 1:35 left, making it a one-possession game, 38-30. Its ensuing on- side kick was recovered by the Beavers, however, who ran out the clock from there.

Oregon State held a decisive advantage in the time of possession battle, controlling the ball for nearly 36 minutes.
