Recap: Oregon State vs. San Diego St
Corvallis, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Both Terron Ward and Storm Woods tallied two touchdown carries each, and the Oregon State Beavers cruised to a 28-7 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs in a non-conference tilt at Reser Stadium Saturday.
Sean Mannion completed 24-of-31 passing for 275 yards with an interception in the win for Oregon State (3-0). Woods led the team in rushing with 52 yards and two scores on 11 carries, while Ward had 50 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 15 totes for the Beavers.
Quinn Kaehler connected on 14-of-26 pass attempts for 106 yards with two interceptions for San Diego State (1-2). Donnel Pumphrey carried the ball a game-high 17 times for 89 yards and the Aztecs' only touchdown in the loss.
San Diego State took the early lead after Pumphrey found his way into the end zone on a two-yard rush with 11:27 to play in the first frame. It was the only time SDSU would score in the contest.
With time running out at the end of the first quarter, Oregon State struck as Ward took a handoff 12 yards for a touchdown to even the score, 7-7, with five seconds remaining in the period.
In the closing minute of the second quarter, Ward found the end zone again on a two-yard rushing score with 27 seconds to play. The Beavers broke for the locker rooms with a 14-7 halftime advantage.
Woods put the first points of the second half on the board when he carried in a five-yard touchdown for the Beavers with 9:58 to play in the third quarter. Oregon State took a two-touchdown lead with the score.
Another Woods touchdown run handed the Beavers a commanding 28-7 lead over SDSU. Woods took a handoff two yards into the end zone with 1:16 to play in the third quarter for the team's fourth rushing score of the game.
Oregon State controlled the tempo of the game, possessing the ball for 35:27, compared to 24:33 for San Diego State. The two teams combined for 16 penalties in the game for 117 yards. Oregon State held the Aztecs to 215 total offensive yards in the contest.Game Notes
