Recap: Washington St vs. USC

Pullman, WA ( - Cody Kessler threw for 400 yards and five touchdowns, leading the USC Trojans past the Washington State Cougars, 44-17, in a Pac-12 Conference contest at Martin Stadium.

Kessler completed 21-of-32 pass attempts for the Trojans (6-3, 5-2 Pac-12), who have won three of their last four. JuJu Smith caught six passes for 74 yards and three touchdowns, while Nelson Agholor caught eight passes for 220 yards and a touchdown. Javorius Allen carried the ball 19 times for 114 yards.

Luke Falk threw for 370 yards and two touchdowns on 38-of-57 passing, but was intercepted once for the Cougars (2-7, 1-5), who have dropped four straight. Connor Halliday was taken from the game after suffering a leg injury. Coming into the weekend, he led the nation in passing yards per game (479.1).

Just under three minutes into the game, USC's Agholor returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown.

Less than two minutes later, the Trojans doubled the lead, as Kessler found Smith for a 22-yard touchdown pass.

A few minutes into the second quarter, Andre Heidari converted a 37-yard field goal to make it 17-0.

Kessler hooked up again with Smith, this time midway through the second quarter, on a 22-yard touchdown pass.

With a minute and a half left in the first half the Cougars got on the board, as Robert Lewis caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Falk.

Midway through the third quarter, Quentin Breshears converted a 27-yard field goal for the Cougars to cut the deficit to 24-10.

Less than a minute later, however, Kessler connected with Agholor on an 87- yard touchdown pass. Before the end of the quarter, Smith caught a seven-yard touchdown pass, his third, to make it 37-10.

Early in the fourth quarter, Kessler found Steve Mitchell for a five-yard touchdown pass.

With 5:30 left, Falk completed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Isiah Myers to end the scoring.

The Trojans put together an impressive 527 yards of total offense in the victory, while Washington State racked up 444 yards of its own in the loss. The Cougars ended the contest with just 34 rushing yards.
