Recap: Texas-El Paso vs. Middle Tennessee

El Paso, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jameill Showers accounted for 165 total yards and two touchdowns as the Texas-El Paso Miners held on for a 24-21 win over the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in a Conference USA clash at the Sun Bowl.

Showers completed 7-of-13 pass attempts for 106 yards and a touchdown, while producing 59 yards and a score on the ground for UTEP (7-5, 5-3 C-USA).

Austin Grammer (106 yards, TD) and Shane Tucker (101 yards, two TDs) helped MTSU (6-6, 5-3) produced 259 yards rushing as a team. Grammer also managed 99 yards and an interception on 9-of-16 passing.

Tucker scored on a four-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter.

UTEP responded with a 34-yard field goal from Jay Mattox.

The Miners jumped ahead with a 72-yard touchdown pass from Showers to Aaron Jones, but Tucker responded with a one-yard touchdown run.

Jones scored again, this time on the ground, with a seven-yard effort in the third quarter.

The Blue Raiders pushed back ahead in the fourth quarter on a three-yard touchdown run from Grammer.

However, UTEP answered with a five-yard touchdown run from Showers, which proved to be the winning score.

Despite the loss, MTSU had a slight edge in total yards (358-356).
