Recap: Texas-El Paso vs. Old Dominion

El Paso, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Josh Bell rushed for 76 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Texas-El Paso Miners to a 42-35 victory over the Old Dominion Monarchs in a Conference USA matchup at the Sun Bowl.

Bell did his damage on just 10 carries for UTEP (3-3, 1-1 C-USA). Jameill Showers completed 17-of-26 passes for 152 yards with two touchdowns to Autrey Golden (six receptions, 70 yards). Aaron Jones carried the ball 18 times for 103 yards.

For ODU (3-4, 1-3), Taylor Heinicke threw for 196 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions on 13-of-25 passing. Ray Lawry was highly efficient out of the backfield with 117 yards on two scores on 13 carries.

After ODU went three-and-out on the game's first drive, UTEP turned around and made it 7-0 on a Bell 2-yard touchdown run less than four minutes in.

The Monarchs answered midway through the first quarter, tying the game up on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Heinicke to Zach Pascal.

UTEP went back on top early in the second quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by Nathan Jeffery. The Miners padded their lead later in the frame on a another touchdown run by Bell, this one from 21 yards out.

ODU cut its deficit in half early in the third quarter when Lawry rushed in a 4-yard score. The Miners answered back less than a minute later, however, as Bell continued his big night with a 37-yard touchdown run.

The Monarchs stormed back to tie the game before the end of the third quarter. Lawry ran in a 7-yard score at the 4:57 mark, then David Washington hauled in a 1-yard touchdown from Heinicke just over two minutes later.

With under four minutes to play, UTEP went back ahead following a 10-yard touchdown from Showers to Golden to cap off a 16-play, 91-yard drive. Showers and Golden hooked up again less than two minutes later, this time from 32 yards out.

ODU made things interesting when Heinicke tossed a 38-yard touchdown to Marques Little with 1:10 to play, but it could not recover the ensuing onside- kick attempt.

UTEP piled up 486 total yards, including 334 on the ground, and it converted 10-of-16 third downs.
