Recap: TX-San Antonio vs. Southern Miss
San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Sean Ianno kicked four field goals and accounted for all 12 points as the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners squeaked out a 12-10 victory over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in a Conference USA battle at the Alamodome Thursday night.
Tailback David Glasco II gained 108 yards on 16 carries, and quarterback Austin Robinson completed 27-of-44 passing for 175 yards and an interception for UTSA (3-7, 2-4 C-USA). The win for the Roadrunners snaps a three-game losing streak.
Nick Mullens completed 21-of-34 passing for 257 yards, a touchdown and an interception for Southern Miss (3-8, 1-6), which was the fourth loss in a row for the Golden Eagles. Markese Triplett pulled in four receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown in the defeat.
It took just about 20 minutes of play for one team to get on the board, but the Roadrunners were able to go ahead 3-0 on an Ianno 41-yard field goal with 10:08 left to play in the second quarter.
It was Ianno again that put the next score up, this time on a 28-yard field goal with one minute to play in the half. UTSA went into halftime up 6-0 over the Golden Eagles.
Once again, it was Ianno that put the points up for UTSA. The kicker connected on a 35-yard field goal try that gave his team the 9-0 edge with 12:01 left in the third quarter.
Corey Acosta finally put Southern Miss up on the board with a 36-yard field goal 18 seconds into the final quarter. The kick cut UTSA's lead to 9-3.
Southern Miss took its first lead of the game on the first touchdown of the game. Mullens connected with Triplett on a 22-yard scoring completion with 7:35 left to play to give the Golden Eagles the 10-9 advantage.
Proving to be the hero of the contest for the Roadrunners, Ianno was good on a 38-yard field goal try with two seconds left to give UTSA the 12-10 win.
UTSA had the advantage in the running game, outgaining the Golden Eagles 169-57 on the ground. The Roadrunners also held Southern Miss to a 3-for-11 third-down conversion rate in the contest.Game Notes
