Boise State got the scoring started on the first drive of the game with a 21- yard field goal by Dan Goodale. The hosts took a 10-0 lead later in the opening quarter on a 12-yard touchdown run by Hedrick.

After a pair of scores early in the second quarter - a Goodale field goal (25 yards) and a 78-yard touchdown pass from Hedrick to Sperbeck - the Broncos held a 20-0 lead.

BYU got on the board with 9:12 to play before halftime on a 17-yard touchdown run by Jamaal Williams, but Boise State answered back just over a minute later when Hedrick struck again with a 49-yard touchdown pass to Williams-Rhodes.

The Cougars scored on an 81-yard touchdown pass from Stewart to Pearson on their next possession, but Boise State brought its lead back to 20, 34-14, on a 3-yard touchdown run by Ajayi with 3:39 to play before halftime.

BYU recorded a safety with 1:26 left, but upon getting possession back Stewart threw an interception. In the final minute of the half, Hedrick threw a 19- yard touchdown pass to Troy Ware to put the Broncos ahead comfortably heading into intermission, 41-16.

The Cougars' defense tried to shift the momentum early in the third quarter, as Fred Warner picked off a Hedrick pass and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown.

However, Hedrick redeemed himself midway through the third quarter with an 8- yard scoring strike to Jake Roh.

Ajayi ran in his second touchdown of the night, this time from two yards away, midway through the fourth quarter.
