Recap: Wyoming vs. Boise State
Laramie, WY (SportsNetwork.com) - Jay Ajayi racked up 202 total yards and three touchdowns, as the Boise State Broncos dismantled the Wyoming Cowboys, 63-14, in a Mountain West Conference showdown at War Memorial Stadium.
Ayaji rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries while also catching two passes for 92 yards and a score for Boise State (9-2, 6-1 MWC), as it continues to control its own destiny in the Mountain Division. Grant Hedrick was outstanding under center, completing 13-of-19 passes for 246 yards, three touchdowns and no picks.
For Wyoming (4-7, 2-5), a trio of quarterbacks combined for just 147 passing yards, with Colby Kirkegaard (10-of-14, 74 yards) earning the most work. Brian Hill was one of the team's few bright spots with 65 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Boise State opened the scoring midway through the first quarter on an 18-yard scoring strike from Hedrick to Shane Williams-Rhodes. The visitors made their lead 14-0 later in the frame on a 17-yard touchdown run by Ajayi.
Wyoming cut its deficit in half early in the second quarter following a 6-yard touchdown run by Hill.
The Broncos retaliated three minutes later when Jeremy McNicholas rushed in a 9-yard score. Ajayi scored another rushing touchdown at the 4:17 mark of the second quarter, this time from 20 yards out.
Boise State picked up right where it left off in the third quarter, as Hedrick and Ajayi connected on a 73-yard touchdown less than a minute into the second half.
The rout continued later in the third when Hedrick tossed an 11-yard touchdown to McNichols.
Boise State's defense and special teams got involved late in the third. Darian Thompson returned an interception 36 yards for a touchdown at the 6:35 mark, then two minutes later Donte Deayon took a punt return 75 yards for a score.
After 42 unanswered points by the Broncos, Wyoming rejoined the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by Hill.
The Broncos' high-scoring night finally came to an end with under seven minutes to play in the game following a 21-yard touchdown rush by Devan Demas.
Boise State outgained Wyoming in the blowout, 558-227, despite losing the time-of-possession battle.Game Notes
