Recap: Wyoming vs. San Jose St

Laramie, WY ( - Joe Gray threw for 322 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another score as the San Jose Spartans defeated the Wyoming Cowboys, 27-20, in an overtime Mountain West Conference battle at War Memorial Stadium.

Gray completed 33-of-45 passes for the Spartans (3-3, 2-1 MWC), while Tyler Winston added 67 receiving yards and a touchdown. Hansell Wilson chipped in with 74 receiving yards and one touchdown while Tyler Ervin contributed 96 rushing yards in the win.

As for the Cowboys (3-4, 1-2), Colby Kirkegaard threw for 119 yards on 11- of-27 passing. Shaun Wick contributed 97 yards on the ground with one touchdown on 16 carries in the loss.

The Spartans opened the scoring when Austin Lopez kicked a 34-yard field goal with 8:43 left in the first quarter. Stuart Williams tied the game at 3-3 with a 36-yard field goal for Wyoming with just over 10 minutes to play in the second frame.

With only three seconds to play in the half, Gray connected with Wilson on a 13-yard touchdown pass to give the Spartans a 10-3 lead at the break.

The Cowboys would tie the score at 10-10 late in the third quarter when Blair Burns recovered a fumble and returned it 63 yards for a touchdown.

Gray would give the Spartans the lead back, 17-10, with an 18-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.

The Cowboys would responded when Wick ran for a 48-yard touchdown to tie the score at 17-17. Then Williams gave the Cowboys their first lead, 20-17, with a 19-yard field goal with 4:10 to play in the contest.

With 42 seconds to play in the game, Lopez booted a 50-yard field goal to tie the game up, which sent it to overtime.

The Spartans scored when Gray connected with Winston on a four-yard touchdown pass. The SJSU defense held on a fourth-down attempt to end the game.

The Spartans outgained the opposition in terms of total offensive yards, 471 to 277, in the contest. The defense held the Cowboys to just 119 yards through the air, while the offense put up 322 passing yards. SJSU racked up 31 first down in the win, compared to just 11 for Wyoming.
