Recap: Kent State vs. Ohio U

Kent, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Josiah Yazdani connected on a 44-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Ohio University Bobcats to a 17-14 victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes in the season and Mid-American Conference opener for each squad at Dix Stadium.

Derrius Vick threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns on 18-of-24 passing for Ohio (1-0, 1-0 MAC). Landon Smith turned his seven receptions into 71 yards and two scores. Daz'mond Patterson had 61 yards rushing and 48 through the air.

Colin Reardon led Kent State (0-1, 0-1) with 264 yards and two touchdowns on 30-of-41 passing. Chris Humphrey brought in six passes for 91 yards and a score, while Ernest Calhoun had a game-high 11 catches for 62 yards.

Vick put Ohio on top 7-0 with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Smith less than five minutes into the first quarter.

Kent State answered right back with an eight-yard touchdown connection from Reardon to Josh Boyle.

Ohio reclaimed the lead midway through the second quarter on a five-yard touchdown pass from Vick to Smith.

After both teams failed to put anything on the scoreboard in the third quarter, and much of the fourth, a 25-yard touchdown pass from Reardon to Humphrey tied things up.

However, Ohio was able to drive 48 yards down the field in the final minutes to set up Yazdani's heroics.

The two teams combined for only three total red zone chances.
