Recap: Idaho vs. Arkansas State

Moscow, ID ( - Michael Gordon rushed for 105 yards and five touchdowns, leading the Arkansas State Red Wolves past the Idaho Vandals, 44-28, in Sun Belt Conference play at the Kibbie Dome.

Fredi Knighten completed 21-of-28 pass attempts for 244 yards for the Red Wolves (5-3, 3-1 SBC), who have won four of their last five games. Tres Houston caught five passes for 83 yards and Gordon added six grabs for another 45 yards.

Matt Linehan took the majority of snaps under center for the Vandals (1-7, 1-5), who returned to the loss column after getting their first win of the season in their previous game. He threw for 93 yards on 11-of-22 passing but was intercepted three times. Elijhaa Penny and Jerrel Brown each rushed for two touchdowns, finishing with 121 and 98 yards, respectively.

Just under five minutes into the game, Gordon ran 44 yards for the touchdown to give the Red Wolves the early lead.

About 15 minutes later Linehan fumbled the football inside the red zone and it was picked up and returned 93 yards for the score by Rocky Hayes, making it 14-0.

Midway through the second quarter the Vandals got on the scoreboard with Penny running for a one-yard touchdown. A few minutes later, Brown's eight- yard touchdown run tied it up at 14-14.

With just seven seconds to play before the end of the half, Luke Ferguson converted a 28-yard field goal for the Red Wolves to break the tie.

Six minutes into the second half, Penny ran two yards for his second touchdown, giving the lead to the Vandals for the first time at 21-17.

A few minutes later, however, Gordon notched his second touchdown on a seven- yard run, making it 24-21 Wolves.

Soon after, Brown rushed for another Vandals touchdown, to give them back the lead, 28-24.

Gordon then made sure ASU would stay in the lead. In the last minute of the third quarter, he ran into the end zone from one yard out. Then, with 7:41 left in the game, he scored again, on a 23-yard run. Just over a minute later he capped off a stellar game with a four-yard score to seal the deal.

Idaho's eight turnovers made it a lot easier for the Red Wolves to pull away as they scored 35 points off those miscues.
