Recap: Texas State vs. Arkansas State

San Marcos, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Robert Lowe rushed for 236 yards and four touchdowns as the Texas State Bobcats outlasted the Arkansas State Red Wolves, 45-27, in a Sun Belt Conference clash at Bobcat Stadium.

Tyler Jones completed 14-of-22 pass attempts for 192 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Texas State (6-5, 4-3 SBC). Lowe carried the ball 29 times and averaged 8.1 yards per carry. C.J. Best hauled in five receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown in the win. The Bobcats ended a two-game losing skid with the victory.

Fredi Knighten completed 31-of-57 passing for 366 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for Arkansas State (6-5, 4-3). Blake Mack caught three passes for a team-best 90 yards and a touchdown in the loss, which was the second in a row for the Red Wolves.

Texas State got on the board first just as the first quarter was about to expire. Jones connected on a two-yard scoring completion with Demun Mercer with 28 seconds to play in the period to give his Bobcats the 7-0 lead.

Arkansas State knotted the score at 7-7 with 12:06 to play in the half when Knighten found Mack on a 47-yard touchdown connection that capped a four-play, 80-yard drive.

But not even two minutes later, Texas State retook the lead when Lowe found the end zone after taking a handoff 26 yards for the score. The touchdown gave the Bobcats a 14-7 advantage.

Jones gave Texas State a bit of a cushion when he found Best on a 70-yard touchdown strike with 6:31 to play in the second for the 21-7 lead.

The Bobcats went even further ahead when Lowe punched in his second touchdown of the quarter, this time from nine yards out, to give Texas State a 28-7 advantage with four minutes to play in the half.

The Red Wolves sliced into the lead when Knighten hooked up with Booker Mays on a 26-yard scoring pass with 2:19 left to play in the frame. Arkansas State trailed 28-14 after the score.

Logan Spry booted an 18-yard field goal through for Arkansas State with 9:46 to play left in the third to cut Texas State's lead to 28-17.

With 3:06 to play in the third quarter, Will Johnson booted through a 25-yard field goal for the Bobcats to increase their lead to 31-17.

Spry hit another field goal for the Red Wolves, this time from 28 yards out, to cut the Texas State lead to 31-20 with three seconds remaining in the period.

But not even two minutes into to fourth quarter, Lowe scored his third rushing touchdown of the night when he broke free for 24 yards and found the end zone for the 38-20 Bobcats lead.

Johnston White put his stamp on the action with a one-yard touchdown run for Arkansas State to cut the lead back down to 11. The touchdown came with 5:29 remaining in the contest.

But with 3:43 left in the game, Lowe put things away for the Bobcats with his fourth rushing score of the game, this one from 50 yards out. Texas State led, 45-27, following the five-play drive.

Texas State had a 370-132 advantage in terms of rushing yards, and held Arkansas State to 7-of-22 on third-down conversion attempts.
