Recap: Appalachian St vs. Georgia State
Boone, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Cox ran for 250 yards and three touchdowns for the Appalachian State Mountaineers as they shut out the Georgia State Panthers, 44-0, in Sun Belt Conference action at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
Taylor Lamb completed 8-of-13 pass attempts for 90 yards for the Mountaineers (3-5, 2-2 SBC), who have won back-to-back games. Ricky Ferguson ran for 123 yards and a touchdown in the win.
Nick Arbuckle completed 8-of-17 pass attempts for 47 yards and was intercepted once for the Panthers (1-8, 0-6), who have dropped eight straight.
A few minutes into the contest, Cox crossed the goal line from a yard out to get the scoring started for the Mountaineers.
Approaching the end of the opening quarter, Lamb scrambled nine yards for the score. After a missed PAT, it was 13-0 in favor of the Mountaineers.
Early in the second quarter, Cox added to the lead with his second touchdown, this time from six yards out.
As time expired in the first half, Simms McElfresh ran 13 yards for another score, making it 27-0 at the break.
A few minutes into the second half, Cox ran five yards for his third touchdown. Several minutes later, Bentlee Critcher converted a 26-yard field goal for the 37-0 lead.
Early in the fourth quarter, Ferguson ran four yards for the final Mountaineers touchdown.
The run game was all the Mountaineers needed, as they racked up 469 yards on the ground while also holding Georgia State to just eight rushing yards. In all, Appalachian State gained 567 offensive yards, while Georgia State managed a mere 62 total yards in the loss.Game Notes
